I replayed all of the failures and disappointments that I had experienced in my life over the years and I started to cry. I heard all of the “nay-sayers” that I had encountered, cheering as the “dream killers” sharpened their weapons, ready to attack.

I remember thinking – Lord why is this so hard? The pain was unbearable and the load seemed too heavy for me to bear. I could hear Satan screaming – It’s never going to work! You’re just not good enough! It is only going to get harder and it would be so much easier to just give up!

But the God in me whispered - When I am for you; I am more than the world against you. My delay is not my denial! If you fall seven times, stand up eight! DAY 44 thru DAY 63: UNPACKING - ORGANIZING - GRINDING - UPDATING & FOLLOWING UP!

I'M BACK - It has been a couple of weeks since I've posted a Blog and an EASIER SAID THAN DONE! UPDATE. But I'm getting back on track now. The Conclave ended weeks ago and yes I am still unpacking...lol. Over the course of the past couple of weeks I have been organizing, grinding, updating and following-up on leads and contacts that I made in New Orleans. I'm still going through all of the emails that were in my inbox when I returned home(Who knew that you could get so much spam in a week..lol. delete...delete...delete...).

After New Orleans, I hit the ground running and resumed my daily grind. I've hit the Beauty Shops, Barber Shops, Sports Bars, Nite Clubs, Happy Hours and even crashed a Family Reunion(Okay, I was invited, but you get the point.). Personally, I have been devastated by 2 deaths in my family in the past 3 weeks(Prayer strengthens and joy truly comes in the morning.) "Life is what happens while you're busy doing other things. Life is fragile; handle with prayer!" My goal has been a welcomed distraction from my sadness, so my mission to sell ONE MILLION BOOKS ACROSS AMERICA continues and now so will my regular Blogs....AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

On my second day of our 95th Anniversary Conclave, I decided not to set up in the Sigma Market Place(Vendor's Area) until after my Opening Ceremony performance, opting instead to set up a table outside of the ballroom where the Opening Ceremony was being held. The Ballroom where the Opening Ceremony was held, was decorated in grand Blue and White style. A Mardi Gras mask and huge pictures of our 3 Founders hung behind the stage, along with our greek letters and a Crescent moon. Two tiers of dignitaries sat prominently on the stage. I sat on the bottom right tier next to a talented classical songstress, who was also performing(Ms. BriAnna Dewar, WOW - could she sing!). The night was filled with great speeches, well wishes and gifts for outgoing President Hon. Bro. Paul L. Griffin, Jr. from the other Presidents of the Divine 9 Organizations.

And then it was my time to hit the podium. I was introduced by Bro. Jerry Green(To most of those in attendance for the first time.) and me and my butterflies made our way to the microphone. All nervousness, quickly disappeared the minute the first word left my mouth. I issued a heartfelt challenge to everyone to "LIVE THEIR DREAM! - Some people dream in technicolor - others add sound effects." The applause and acknowledgement from the audience indicated that they understood and accepted the challenge. Setting-up outside the Ballroom paid off, because the pictures started and product began to move as soon as the closing prayer was concluded. I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW! ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

DAY 36 - I GOT THE BLUES - AND I COULDN'T BE ANY HAPPIER!

I arrived at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans(The host hotel for our Conclave) around 10:00 a.m. and it was Blue and White EVERYWHERE! I quickly made my way to the first registration post - A - something... (I don't remember, but that's where the "B"''s where located.) I showed my ID and registration letter and received all of my "sigma stuff". With two members of my DREAM TEAM in tow, I mingled and mixed, always finding a way to talk about ONE MILLION BOOKS ACROSS AMERICA (Hey, a Brotha is on a mission!). I started promoting my mission and my book - EASIER SAID THAN DONE! within 2 minutes of my arrival(And it only took me that long, because I had to get out of the car and go inside - I'M ON IT! ) I located my vendors table, unloaded the boxes of books and CDs, did a quick walk through of the ballroom in which I would be performing on Tuesday night(I had to put my energy in the room early), grabbed me some Arby's, networked a little more and hit the sack early(Who new having the Blues could be so exhausting.) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

As I make the trek from Houston to New Orleans for the 95th Anniversary Conclave of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., I am excited about meeting and networking with my fraternity Brothers from all over the country and world. I am filled with the hope and promise that this will be a productive/prosperous trip. The week will be filled with information, fun and reflections. I have loaded up the hoopty with tons of books and cds and I intend to sell everyone(I know, I know that's EASIER SAID THAN DONE!) but PRAY FOR ME - I'M READY! ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... I've sold 190 Books as of today and I have 60 more days to go until my August 31st deadline. I know what you're thinking - "He's never gonna make it". Henry David Thoreau said - "In the long run you hit only what you aim at. Therefore, though you should fail immediately, you had better aim at something high!" So the next 60 days will be busy, busy, busy! I'm going to reach out to everyone I can to join the movement(Yes, get ready for the ultimate email campaign - lol). Tonight as I sat backstage at The Sanger Theater in Mobile, Alabama, waiting on my cue to take the stage in the stage play - THERE'S ONE IN EVERY FAMILY(Heaven Ain't That Hard To Find!), I started thinking about how much I LOVE THE THEATER! Thanks to Curtis Von, for allowing me to be a part of his production. And thanks to all of the wonderful people that I had the opportunity to work with on the play: Shirley Murdock, George Ukomadu, Bobbi Faye Yarbrough, Eve L. Wills Tate, Derrick Keener, Drew Williams, Cydni, Bri, Portia, Quincy, Will, Rob and anybody else that I failed to mention.

It has always been my dream to take MY STAGE PLAYS on tours around the world. As I walked around the theater earlier that day, I saw the sold-out crowd sitting there patiently waiting on MY PLAY to start. I heard the thunderous rounds of applause as MY PLAY ended. I saw the long lines of fans standing patiently to get the autographs of the cast of MY PLAY. I've always been a dreamer and because I know God has given me the ability to make those dreams come true - I DREAM IN COLOR! "We create our future by what we dream today!" ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

DAY 26 - HOW WILL YOU BE REMEMBERED?

Today I spent most of the day watching all of the news reports, videos and tributes pouring in for MICHAEL JACKSON. Seeing all that he accomplished in his short life, has me thinking about my own life. One question keeps coming to my mind - "HOW WILL I BE REMEMBERED?" Yes I have the Cds, the Plays, the Radio Show, the Book, etc., etc., etc., but is that enough for me to be remembered long after I'm gone? I will always remember something that my Sunday School Teacher - Sis. Franklin taught me - "It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!" I strive daily to treat people like I want to be treated. I happily share my platform with others and I try and sow seeds into the dreams of as many people as I can. I try to speak positivity into the lives of all that I encounter and lend a helphing hand, when I can. Hopefully, when my time on this earth is done, somebody - some where will utter the words - "brburns.com was very talented, but more importantly, he was a genuinely nice guy!" - "The greatest use of life is to spend it for something that outlasts it!" ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

Today I hit the streets again in 104 degree Houston heat(Having a vision is an automatic cooler). Tonight I attended rehearsals for the Stage Play that I am in - THERE'S ONE IN EVERY FAMILY"(Heaven Ain't That Hard To Find!). When I am "onstage" - I am focused on the task at hand, but when I am "offstage" - I AM STILL FOCUSED ON MY GOAL! In between scenes and on the breaks - I'm promoting/selling - EASIER SAID THAN DONE! Is this multi-tasking? Whatever it is - I'M DOING IT! I have 1,000,000 Books to sell across America and everybody that I come in contact with is a potential "BELIEVER!" - And... END SCENE(LOL!) "You don't have to lay awake nights to succeed - just stay awake days!" ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

My morning was spent in "Rejection City". It seemed like everywhere I went and everyone that I asked to buy my book(EASIER SAID THAN DONE), see my vision and support the movement - said NO. Disappointed, but not discouraged - I was down for a minute, but not out for a second! I kept pounding the pavement and then the YESSSS started echoing like an Appalachian yodeler! YES! YES! YES! YES! - "It's often the last key on the ring that opens the door!" ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

DAY 22 - I WILL BLAME IT ON THE GOOSE and THE HENNEY!

Tonight I had a Book Signing at CLAYTON'S Restaurant & Bar(I told you, I will sign books anywhere - MANY THANKS to Kim and her GREAT Staff!). I spoke with a lot of people about MY BOOK(Easier Said Than Done), ITS' PURPOSE(Inspiring Others To Live Their Dream, THE MOVEMENT(Initiate A Breakthrough)and MY MISSION(To Sell 1,000,000 Books Across America). During one of those many conversations, I came across a Brotha, who shall remain nameless, but we will refer to him as "Mr. Negative Pants" - (LOL... I can't even type that without laughing). Anyway, "Mr. N. Pants"...lol... (see I told you)... he gave me every excuse under the sun, why he wouldn't purchase my book or support my movement - "I don't read!" - "I haven't read a book since Curious George!" - "I start reading a book and I just get bored and go uuuggghhh!" - "I don't believe in movements!" - "It's a lot of people at my job that read, but I don't read!" - "All I read are e-Books!" - HOLD UP WAIT A MINUTE: I thought he said he didn't read?...hmmm...

ONE IMPORTANT DETAIL: I forgot to mention that in between all of these excuses given by "Mr. Pants"(lol) he was gulping drinks down like a fish(Do fish drink alcohol? hmmm). OH WELL THAT EXPLAINS IT...LOL... Although, I know that EVERYONE is not going to buy my book, for whatever reason, it still doesn't stop me from asking. So "Mr. Negative Pants", I know you probably don't even remember meeting me or ever hearing anything about my book or movement, I'm sure you can "blame it on the goose and the henney - LOL. But whenever our paths cross again(And oh they will cross again.) - I WILL explain my mission to you and ask you to purchase my book again and that my friend you can blame it on PERSISTANCE! Thomas Edison said - "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is to always try one more time!" ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

DAY 20 - THE BOOK SPEAKS FOR ITSELF! People Are Talking!

Today I did some backtracking. After I signed books at a Garage Sale(Yes I will sign books anywhere! - Big ups to my girl RAE at Front Cover.), I went back to a Beauty Salon that I had previously sold books to. When I got to the shop, a couple of the people that I had tried to sell books to on my original visit, were excitedly anxious to purchase their copy of my book.

REWIND A WEEK EARLIER... "I don't want the book!" - "No Thank You!" - "I'm not interested!" But today, they couldn't get their copies fast enough. I had to know why they had changed their minds. One of them told me - Plain and Simple - "IT WAS THE BOOK!". They informed me that the other people that I had sold the books to in the Salon, were carrying on and on about the book: "Ooo girl, this book is good!" - "I can't put it down!" - "You gotta get you a copy!" - Etc. etc. etc. Note to self: WORD OF MOUTH is the best form of advertisement. So THANK YOU to all of the "Believers" who have become "Advertising Executives" for EASIER SAID THAN DONE! Please keep talking about and promoting the book and I know we will sell ONE MILLION BOOKS ACROSS AMERICA! "One person lights the fire - The other person fans it!"...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

Today as I take time to celebrate - JUNETEENTH(The day that the slaves were notified of their freedom in Texas.) I can't help but reflect on how mentally enslaved a lot of people that I know still are. Although, the physical chains of slavery no longer exist, so many people are still living in slavery. Whether they are a slave to a job they hate. A slave to a bad relationship that they refuse to end. Or a slave to a dream that they are afraid to go after. The chains that bind the mind and heart, still exist. "Are you still a slave?" Tonight I had the pleasure of doing a Book Signing at a place that had a much younger crowd than I was accustomed to. There were a lot of young people in attendance, but very few were interested in "reading" or in buying a book. I became a little discouraged, not because I wasn't selling a lot of books, but because of the number of times I heard from Young Brothers and Sisters - "I DON'T READ"... hmmm

So that started me to thinking about our mission to sell ONE MILLION BOOKS ACROSS AMERICA. The goal was never just about selling 1,000,000 books, it has always been about INSPIRING OTHERS TO FIND THEIR PASSION AND LIVE THEIR DREAM! Now, because of my experience at the Book Signing tonight, I am adding a new layer to our goal - TO GET MY PEOPLE TO PLEASE PICK UP A BOOK AND READ! Reading is not only fundamental, but it is fascinating. It broadens your horizons and builds your vocabulary. It keeps you entertained and engaged. I THANK GOD for my Grandmother & Mother - for insisting that I turn the television off and pick up a book and to "The Book Mobile" that parked at the Mt. Calm Baptist Church in Simsboro, La once a month, every Summer - bringing all those BEAUTIFUL BOOKS! Reading changed my way of thinking, showed me the possibilities and is allowing me to live my dream! ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

Today I took the opportunity to catch-up on some overdue paperwork(They don't call it Show Business for nothing!). Since I started this goal, I had gotten behind and it was piling up(Send out emails, follow-up on some leads, look for new places to sell and promote, balance the books, update the websites and schedule guests for the radio show - WHEW I was getting behind.) . But, I never want to get so busy, that I can't pause a minute, just to say THANK YOU to all of the people who have so graciously accepted me and my mission and became a "Believer". All of those wonderful people who have purchased a book or cd - THANK YOU! All of the business owners who have set up signings for us - THANK YOU! All of the Salon and Barber Shop owners who haven't once called security on us -THANK YOU! And to everyone who has gone to the website and signed-up - THANK YOU FOR BEING A BELIEVER! DAY 15 - WORK - WHEN YOU'RE WORKING

Today was a very interesting day. Although I had to put my mission on pause for a second to help a friend move, I still found myself working my plan, while I was working. "The best way to solve your own problem is to help someone else solve his." Do you remember the line from the song - "Your body is here with me, but your mind is on the other side of town"? That's literally what I was experiencing. With each piece of furniture that I picked up with my hands, my mind grabbed hold of a new angle, by which I could work my plan to sell ONE MILLION BOOKS ACROSS AMERICA. When I would stop to catch my breath, I would make follow up phone calls to set-up new signings. During the walk from the apartment to the moving truck, I would practice my presentation and my poetry. And although the numbers don't reflect it - TODAY WAS A VERY PRODUCTIVE DAY! ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

SATURDAY WAS PHENOMENAL!!! I had the honor of being hosted by Priscilla at her beautiful home(THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!). The ambiance was immaculate. The crowd was accomplished, intelligent and interesting. The wine was chilled, the hors d'oeuvres were delicious and the books were flying out of the trunk!(Okay, I had the books in the house with me, but you get my point - lol.) The connections that were made - were priceless. Thanks again Priscilla and Chana for an event that was "networking at its finest".

The day started with a couple of Beauty Shop & Barber Shop Drop-ins(Shouts out to IN GOD'S HANDS SALON and SALONS IN THE PARK) - Thanks for the love! From there we were invited to make our pitch at the Staff Meeting of BIG DREAMS & LIL' WONDERS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY - Thanks to JoAnne and her Staff for allowing me and my Team to come to your meeting. Your generosity and support will never be forgotten.

Today I enthusiastically continued my impromptu Beauty Shop and Barber Shop visits(Is it still impromptu, if this is the second day that I'm doing it?). During one of my Barber Shop drop-ins, I ran into a guy(Roy) that I went to Texas College with. He was surprised and so was the Barber(Tyrone) that I could remember his first and last name, since I had not seen or communicated with him since 1985. Roy enthusiastically said "Of course I want to buy your book - you went to Texas College - I gotta support what your doing!" His enthusiasm and excitement generated a sale from Tyrone as well. Just as I remembered a Classmate that I had not seen in over 20 years - I WILL NEVER FORGET THE PEOPLE WHO HAS - HAVE - AND IS, SUPPORTING ME! As I sat home, patiently waiting for those "tons" of internet book orders to come flooding in, a song by Macy Gray popped in my mind. I don't really remember the whole song(But I do remember that crazy hair and those huge white balls), I remembered the line - "Get up! Get out! And MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN!"

So I rounded up my TEAM, and we did an impromptu Beauty Shop & Barber Shop Tour. Not only did we sell a ton of Books, but we made some great new fans and got a lot of great leads. And for the record let me just say this, there are a lot of ARTISTICALLY TALENTED PEOPLE STANDING BEHIND THOSE CHAIRS! We met singers, poets, actresses and more. It made me wish that I could do/cut hair. How phenomenal would that a be: Me doing my Talk Show, acting in and directing a play, spitting a poem, signing a book and at the same time, putting on a perm and giving a bald fade - COULD HAPPEN! And as far as those internet orders, I'm sure they're on the way - SMILE. Thomas Edison said - " Everything comes to him who hustles while he waits!"...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

When you're pursuing your passion and following your dreams, things seldom go as planned. Your plan for the plan, does not go as you've planned. Events get cancelled, people stop calling and emails aren't returned - "What do you do?" You shake off the disappointments of yesterday and start again.

There's a Gospel song by Donnie McClurkin that says "We fall down, but we get up!". The thing to "try" when all else fails is - to "try" again! There is an old African Proverb that says: TODAY IS EARLY ENOUGH! ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

DAY 1 - ENCOURAGE YOURSELF! - Celebrate The Small Steps!

Today is the first day of my New Mission(ONE MILLION BOOKS ACROSS AMERICA in 90 Days). I woke up this morning eager to check my website, to see how much closer I was to my goal. My excitement was quickly diminished as I realized that I only received 3 Book Orders(*SIGH* 3 Books down and 999,997 MORE TO GO!). As I sat here slowly slipping into the dimensions of discouragement, something that my Co-Host Dee Spencer has often said, came to mind: "Never frown at SMALL BEGINNINGS, because you never know what may become of them!" So instead of looking at the glass as virtually EMPTY, I got excited about it being 3 Books Closer to being FULL!

"The secret to success is to start from scratch and keep on scratching!" When things don't immediately work-out the way that we plan, we have to ENCOURAGE OURSELVES. Every step towards your goal is worthy of celebrating, because you can't get to your destination without every single one. SO HIP HIP HORRAY FOR DAY 1 and I CAN'T WAIT to see what DAY 2 has instore - deserving of a celebration!...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

FROM THE HEAD TO THE HAND, PART 1: Making your dreams a reality!

As I begin the NEXT stage of my journey - to the NEXT level of my life, initial thoughts of - "Can I really do this?", begin to surface. I quickly reflect back to the day that I got the idea to write a book - the day that it was just a "thought" in my HEAD. And then I fast-forward to the day that the book came and I held it in my HANDS - WOW, what an awesome feeling! It was that feeling, caused by a single idea, that I had to let sink-in. The idea of actually holding something in my hands that was just an idea in my head a little less than a year earlier, was something that would reshape my thinking and ultimately change my life forever. IF I HAD ONE WISH…

As a kid I remember watching "I Dream Of Jeannie" faithfully. It was something about seeing Jeannie grant wishes in the blink of eye, that fascinated me. I remember thinking on numerous occasions – “Man, if I had just one wish…”. My one wish usually turned out to be three or four or five, but they were always the same: “I wish I had a million dollars.” – “I wish I could fly.” – “I wish my Grandfather was still alive.” – “I wish I could live in a tree.” – I know, I know, silly of me.

Although it has been years since I’ve seen an episode of “I Dream Of Jeannie”, and I am much older now, I do sometimes still find myself wishing – “Man, if I had just one wish…” And since I’m older now, what I would wish for has changed, and one wish would suffice. I realize now that I have the power to make a Million dollars(It’s something you have to work for and not wish for.). I have been blessed to fly all over the country and the world(Thank God for the invention of the airplane.) Although I miss him tremendously, I realize that my Grandfather, still lives inside my heart(And I believe that his spirit and energy surrounds me always.). And that “living in a tree thing” – I was just a silly kid – lol.

So if I had one wish...

My wish is...

"THAT I MATTERED!"

When I first heard the song by R. Kelly - "I Believe I Can Fly", my initial reaction was - Huh? - What the hell is he smoking? But then I listened to song again and paid closer attention to the lyrics and heard the words: "If I can see it, then I can do it. If I just believe it, there's nothing to it!" And I've been believing that I could fly ever since. And no, I don't literally believe that I can stretch out my arms like a bird and soar through the air and no, I'm not smoking anything either -lol. But I strongly believe that the possibilities for my life are unlimited. I strongly believe that if I put my mind to it and put the hard work behind it, then there is nothing that I cannot accomplish.

I'm know that sounds crazy to a lot of people. Because, I can't tell you how many times I've been called crazy, because of my willingness to "step out on faith" and follow my dreams. But everybody thats ever done anything of any type of significance, at some point was called crazy, or at the very least idealistic or a dreamer. So many people allow the wings of their dreams to be clipped in mid-flight by negative people(Umph - I said something then). If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, you can't share your dreams with everybody - Everybody is not going to see your vision! So I would rather be called crazy because I had enough guts to follow my dreams and pursue my passion, than to be believed sane and live a life unfulfilled!...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL but BLACK EYES are NOT!

I know by now most of us have heard about the unfortunate incident involving singers Rihanna and Chris Brown(Unfortunate? Yes! – New? No!). As I sat down to write this blog, I thought about the scene in the movie What’s Love Got To Do With It, where Ike told Tina – “Eat the cake Anna Mae” and the iconic scene in the movie The Colored Purple, where Sophia blasted Ms. Celie – “You told Harpo to beat me”, and I must admit I smiled, but there is truly nothing funny about domestic abuse. I don’t know the circumstances that led up to the violence between Rihanna and Chris Brown, nor do I know either of them personally, but I do know a lot of people who have found themselves in an abusive relationship or situation. For the record let me state, there is never a reason for your relationship to turn violent. What happened to talking it out? What happened to walking away? What happened to “make love not war”?

I recently heard a song by R&B Singer Avant that asked the question: “Will you love me when it hurts?” There is no greater joy than to be “in love” and connected with another person, but lets face it – love is not easy. We have all been in love once or twice, and sometimes things have not gone quite so well. Maybe you had your heart broken, or you were cheated on, or you were dumped with no explanation and you ended up hurting. Yes love sometimes hurts emotionally, however, you should never be hurt physically by the one that you love. The old cliché “love is a battlefield” still holds true. And although we sometimes have to wear the wounds of love on our hearts, WE SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO WEAR THEM ON OUR FACE! ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

I heard somebody say once, "It is easy to work for someone else, because all you have to do is just show up". However, working for your self is like climbing a mountain with dental floss (Okay, maybe it's not that difficult) but it is no small feat. Becoming an entrepreneur is probably among the hardest and bravest decisions that you will ever have to make. It's something about, "stepping out on faith" and following your dreams that is as scary, as it is uncertain.

But, when you do take that step of faith, it is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences that you will ever encounter - there is no business, like your own business. Don’t get me wrong, owning and operating your own business is very hard work - but it's a different kind of hard work - which makes it not seem like work at all. Imagine the thrill of seeing something that you envisioned, become a living, breathing, operating, thriving and prosperous entity - OH WHAT A RUSH!

Minding your own business is a 24-hour job, there are no vacations, you are the boss and the employee, it's a constant work in progress and getting people to support and sow seeds into that business - NOW THAT'S A BLOG OF A DIFFERENT POST...LOL. Being a business owner is not an easy task, which is why most people choose to work for someone else - AND JUST SHOW UP! But, if you ever get the guts to become one of the few, the proud, the entrepreneur - I MUST WARN YOU: "Once you go Business Owner - you'll never go back!" ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... QUESTION: When you're in a relationship, is it ever okay to lie? Is leaving out information the same thing as telling a lie?

How many times have you heard - "When I'm in a relationship, I give out information on a need-to-know basis". I agree that you don't need to tell everybody - everything, however if it directly affects them, then that would qualify as a NEED - TO - KNOW! Secrets are the very foundation on which hurt and heartache are built. The walls of dishonesty that initially hold your house of lies together, will ultimately be the ones that cave-in on you.

Don't get me wrong, we have all told "little white lies" (Lies that we persume are innocent in nature and are never meant to harm anyone.), however a lie, is a lie, is a lie - IS A LIE! Lying to a person, in order to "spare them some hurt" is like ordering a diet Coke with your double meat cheesburger in order to cut down on calories.

So as my Mother and Grandmother always told me: " You can lie to some of the people all of the time, but you can't lie to yourself none of the time!" The truth is consistent and does not change! AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... Who knows - Maybe it's just me!

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS: Meeting someone in person that you met online can be a very scary and an intimidating experience. "What do I wear?", "What do I say?", "Is my breath okay?". But what happens when the person that you have been chatting with back forth for the past several months, weeks, days or hours (if that's your thang), leaves out some very important information? Important information like - I HAVE ONE LEG!

Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing and I reapeat ABSOLUTELY NOTHING against one-legged people, but I do have a problem with people that leave out VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION. A midst all of the endless chatter:

HIM: I'm 6' 190 pds brown skin...etc...etc...etc...
HER: I like that...
HIM: And tell me more about you?...
HER: What do you want to know?...
HIM: Other than being super fine - How do you look?...
HER: I'm a freak. I'm sexy... etc...etc...etc...

"How can you leave out - I HAVE ONE LEG?" That should've been the first thing out of your keyboard. But it wasn't, and now you put me in a very uncomfortable position. What if I had planned a game of "naked twister" for our first date? How can we play "strip kick ball?" UUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!! Maybe it's just me!

Aug 05, 2008 – brb entertainment announces the debut of its new hilarious, uplifting and motivational Stage Play – YOU CAN’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS’ COVER! – “Everybody Has Potential”, on Saturday, September 6, 2008, show starts at 7:30 p.m. at The Morris Cullen Arts Center - 7502 Fondren, Houston, TX 77074-3298 on The Campus of Houston Baptist University.

Since the release of the CNN special Black In America, there are a lot of unanswered questions, such as where do we as African American men go from here? This stage play answers those questions.

YOU CAN’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS’ COVER! – “Everybody Has Potential” centers around a group of Men that form a support group to encourage each of them to “step out on faith” and follow their dreams, they are met with criticism and disapproval from the people in their lives whose opinions they value the most. Unexpectedly, the group’s weekly meeting, held in a small coffee shop, is converged on by a loved one and chaos ensues. The negative comments and lack of support, cause the men to question, whether or not, they have what it takes to make their dreams a reality. In the midst of all of the confusion, the Men find support, forgiveness and encouragement from the most unexpected places, proving that “you can’t judge a book by its’ cover because everybody has potential!”

ABOUT THE WRITER/DIRECTOR

b.r.burns.com is a writer, speaker, director, poet, actor, teacher and CEO of brb entertainment. He serves as “The Resident Poet” on The Michael Baisden Radio Show and has toured extensively throughout the U.S. performing poems from his popular poetry CDs and novel, EASIER SAID THAN DONE. Well it's finally done. I must be honest and tell you that prior to the show, I had so much nervous energy flowing inside of me that I was about to burst. But after those first few minutes on the air - I felt right at home. When I was putting the first show together I was concerned about not having enough to say or talk about for an hour, but in the midst of doing the show I was thinking - "Where did all of the time go...hmm..." I hope and pray that this show will inspire other Artist to follow their dreams and keep on keeping on.

I gotta give thanks to God for the gifts and the opportunity to share them. Got Issues? - "Let's Talk About It!"

Over the course of several months, I have been faced with many disappointing and discouraging situations. In the midst of my weekly fasting and praying, God revealed to me the opportunity to host my own internet radio show. As always, I prayed about it and then took a sheet of paper and folded it in half. On one side, I wrote down all of the reasons why I should do it and on the other side, I wrote down all of the reasons why I shouldn’t. The should’s outweighed the should not’s – and here I am.

Over the years, I have been blessed enough to amass a large fan base and I am truly thankful for each and every one of you. I have always shared my platform with others and always believed in paying it forward and this show will be no different. Although I have been on the radio for many years, this is my first time hosting my own show. But, I am the poster child for the Nike slogan – Just do it! Many of the things that I have accomplished in my life, I accomplished because I stepped out on faith and I just did it! When I wrote my first poem, I had never written a poem before – I just did it! When I recorded my first poetry CD, I had never recorded a CD before – I just did it! When I decided to write plays, direct plays, start a company and produce plays, I had never done any of it before – I just did it! And just recently when I decided to release my debut Novel – EASIER SAID THAN DONE, I had never done it before, but yes, you guessed it – I just did it!

So, I am doing this show to provide a platform for the Artist, the Ordinary, the Extraordinary, the Plain Folk and the Celebrity to discuss issues that they have been confronted with and most importantly, how they dealt with them and Moved On. Additionally, I will also use this show as an outlet to promote people, products and events that will entertain, uplift, motivate and inspire others. R.I.P. - Mr. Lou Rawls

Lou Rawls, the velvet-voiced singer who started as a church choir boy and went on to sell more than 40 million albums, died Friday, January 6, 2006. He won three Grammy Awards in a career that spanned nearly five decades and a range of genres. He was 72.

As a proud graduate of Texas College(Tyler, TX) - a historically Black College, I was recently saddened by the passing of Mr. Lou Rawls. His tireless efforts to keep the spotlight on and raise money for HBCU's will always be a shining star in his lasting legacy.

Thank You God for lending us Mr. Lou Rawls.

In this year of "following your dreams", yesterday's radio show was on point. Most of the callers were in relationships/marriages were their spouses were extremely supportive of their visions. But there were several callers who expressed dismay with their significant others, because of their lack of support for their pursuits.

As a person that is "actively" following his dream - I can "testify" that having people in your corner that support and encourage your endeavors - IT' MATTERS! So I will share with you something that I heard Susan Taylor(Essence Magazine) say at a conference once: "Either you're on my way 0r you're in my way!" So I say to you - tell all those nonbelievers to "GET OUT OF YOUR WAY!"
